Some time ago I informed of the .40/44 Woodswalker intended for the Contender an the .40/454 intended for the Encore. In case you missed it both are big bore short range pigdeerelkbearblasters.

In a 10" Contender the .40/44 will do 2300 with a 150 and the .40/454 will do 2800 from a 12" Encore. Both are devastating at wood ranges on deer-sized animals.

Two new Woodswalkers have now arrived. The .375/454 will do 2375 with the 200 grain Sierra, 2200 with the 220-225 Hornady and about 1950 with the 270 Hornady. (15" barrel).

Most loads in a 12" lose 100-150 fps. The .44/454 will do an easy 2300 with a 240 and 2100 with a 300 grain (15"). Most loads when fired in a 10" lose about 100-200 fps depending on bullet

Certainly other cartridges will match that performance in .375 and .44 caliber. The 440 Cor Bon (50 AE necekd to 44) is one of them. In 10" Encore barrels they just about match the .444s in 14-15" barrel performance. Certainly .44 Magnums, .45 Colts and .454's loaded with proper fast expanding bullet will put animals down relatively quickly too (not usually with cast bullets however unless the spine is hit). In many areas the animal that runs very far is one that is lost.

In an attempt to show you the power of the .40/454 I filled a 30 caliber steel ammo can with water and shot it with the lid off the can. Take a look at the photo and if you feel adventuresome try to duplicate that damage with whatever you have at hand.
